*New* Graduate Assistantship Opportunity
The Department of Communication at Boise State University is pleased to announce a Graduate Assistantship opportunity aimed at supporting an M.A. student who identifies as a member of an historically underrepresented racial or ethnic group in graduate education (e.g., Black/African American, Hispanic, Latino/Latina, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Native Pacific Islander). This Graduate Assistantship opportunity is in addition to several other Graduate Assistantships available in our program, and we intend to award it to a qualified graduate student starting the program in fall 2017.

This Graduate Assistantship provides the following funding opportunities:

  • A 9‐month Teaching Assistantship position that includes a $15,000 stipend, tuition and fee waiver, student employee benefits, and GA insurance. There may be an opportunity to extend funding for an additional year based on available funds.
  • A 3-month summer Research Assistantship that includes a $3,000 stipend for summer research in partnership with a graduate faculty mentor.
  • Support for conference travel to present research.

We are interested in applicants who demonstrate an interest and aptitude for engaged scholarship. The student receiving this award will receive mentorship from a graduate faculty advisor to support the student’s success in graduate study. Interested applicants should apply to the M.A. in Communication program and indicate an interest in this Graduate Assistantship opportunity.

Applying for a Graduate Assistantship
If you are interested in being considered for a Graduate Assistantship opportunity, when applying to the program you must provide an additional graduate assistantship statement of purpose describing your reasons for applying for a Graduate Assistantship, past experiences helping to prepare for an assistantship, and goals as they pertain to an assistantship position. We also recommend applicants ask those writing letters of recommendation to include an assessment of your abilities related to serving as a Graduate Assistant. Please keep your statement to 1 – 2 double-spaced pages in length.
